Invasion, July 19 2006, Nablus TV

Here's some footage that Nablus TV was kind enough to share with me. It's basically raw footage without much editing. This shows the opening day of the latest Israeli invasion of Nablus. They attacked the Muquata (again); it was partially destroyed in 2001. It was the home of the city hall, the interior ministry, and a police station and prison.
On the first day, three people were killed. As far as I know, they were just innocent bystanders, though it's possible one was a resistance fighter. One of the people killed was the son of one of the producers at Nablus TV.
Like I talked about in the last video, the invasion cut Nablus off from the refugee camps, where we give a lot of our classes. A French volunteer was in Balata camp at the time; I hope to post a short interview with her soon.
Even just looking at the video again at the TV station made me sad. Scores of people were killed and injured, and the life of the city was totally disrupted for days. As far as we can tell, this was basically the Israelis taking revenge for a soldier who was killed in the old city. Ha'aretz had an absurd story today about there being Hizb'allah fighters in the Nablus city hall; glance at a map to see how laughable that assertion is. |
