| L.A. Earthquake - Caught on Tape; Court Hearing & Big Brother
|
A powerful earthquake rattled Greater Los Angeles area this morning, but so far has caused no serious damage or injuries. The 5.4 quake was centered 3 miles southwest of Chino Hills and 7.6 miles deep. The quake struck at 11:42 a.m. followed by 11 aftershocks which 3.8 being the largest and the only one felt per Cal Tech Pasadena experts.
Incidentally, there is an alarming earthquake activities in Parkfield, CA. Parkfield is the most closely observed earthquake zone in the world. Scientists measure the strain in rocks, heat flow, and geomagnetism constantly around Parkfield in observation of the San Andreas fault that will hopefully help scientists understand earthquakes and maybe some day predict major earthquakes along the San Andreas fault and across the world.
The San Andreas Fault is a geologic transform fault that runs a length of roughly 800 miles (1,300 km) through California in the United States. The fault's motion is right-lateral strike-slip (horizontal motion). It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate.
A more serious quake is expected within the next 30 years, according to a study sponsored by the USGS and published in April in Science Daily. The USGS said there was a 99 percent chance of California having a magnitude 6.7 or larger within the next 30 years |

| Hearing Test
|
Set your volume to regular settings, as if you were watching any YouTube movie. Watch "" and listen very carefully using headphones. The video displays audio frequencies that are being played. You can determine what you can or what you cannot hear. Typically, depending on age, audible frequencies will be between 20-30 Hertz on the low side of the audio spectrum, and 10-16 kiloHertz on the high side of the audio spectrum. There are individuals, however, who can can hear the whole spectrum between 16 Hz (Hertz) and 20 kHz (kiloHertz). Because of the encoding used during the audio preparation, tests above 18 kHz are not very reliable.
Please make sure that you do not increase the volume just to see if you can hear anything! |
