Reusing Google APIs with Google Web Toolkit

We like to say that GWT brings software engineering to the crazy world of Ajax, and of course straightforward code reuse is a cornerstone of smart software engineering. Naturally, then, we had to create easy-to-reuse jars that provide Java-friendly versions of the popular Google JavaScript APIs. It's called the Google API Library for GWT.
Heard of Google Maps? Gears? It's in there. Gadgets, too. Come to this hands-on session to see just how easy it can be to employ Google APIs in your GWT projects. |

AJAX frameworks have allowed developers to improve the web by making it easier to build high quality applications that users love. This session discusses how the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) can be combined with new technologies to build even better applications. More details on this session will be provided at Developer Day.
Speaker Bio: Dan joined Google Developer Programs in 2006 to help developers become successful with the Google Web Toolkit and other products. Before joining Google, Dan was a computer scientist at GE Research, where he gave himself headaches by switching between web development in JavaScript and circuit design in Verilog. Dan lives in Atlanta with his wife, two cats, and lots of video games.
Brad Neuberg is an internationally-recognized software inventor in the fields of collaboration and online applications. His passion is inventing amazing ideas and then doing the hard work to make them real. He has extensive experience in the open source community, contributing code to Dojo, Mozilla, JXTA, the Jakarta Feed Parser, and more. |

Converting a large web application, counting thousands of JSPs, to a state of the art Web 2.0 user interface is a challenge, to say the least. This case study will tell you more about how the conversion process is currently handled at ContactOffice: selecting the 'best' framework, identifying the missing pieces and filling the holes, defining a scalable front-end and adapting the existing back-end architecture, organizing the development staff, tips & tricks and lessons learned.
Before joining ContactOffice as CTO, Luc Claes was a researcher in software engineering and held top R&D management positions in two Belgian companies. At ContactOffice, his current topics of expertise include the Google Web Toolkit (GWT), transparent data persistency, data synchronization and communication modeling. Luc is an industrial engineer in electronics and holds a master degree in computer sciences. |
