Lake Biwa Rowing Song (琵琶湖周航の歌 英語版)

Music video of Biwako Shuko no Uta (Lake Biwa Rowing Song) in English. 琵琶湖周航の歌の英語版ビデオ。
The song is about a boat-rowing trip around Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake in Shiga Prefecture. With six verses, the song circumnavigates the lake as it mentions Shiga's famous places and evokes beautiful scenery and vivid colors. The original Japanese song is Shiga's most famous song and also a national hit made famous by Tokiko Kato in 1971.
The photos and video clips show related scenery in Shiga, song monuments, and rowers from Imazu Junior High School (Takashima, Shiga) and Kyoto University rowing on Biwako.
English lyrics by Philbert Ono, sung by Jamie and Megan Thompson, piano played by Mariko Hinaga, piano music arranged by Yuji Matsuyama. English song created in 2006, music video created in 2007. Photos and video clips by Philbert Ono.

「琵琶湖周航の歌」は大津（滋賀の都）、近江舞子（雄松）、今津、竹生島、長浜、伊吹、長命寺などの県内の名所が色とりどりに登場する美しい故郷の歌です。英語版もあれば外国人への観光PRにもなりますし、滋賀県の低い知名度も上がるだろうと思い、英語版を作って2006年06月03日に今津港の歌碑前で初公開しました。英語版を歌ってくれたのは、米国イリノイ州出身のジェイミーとメゲン・トンプソンの双子姉妹。
この「英語版」というと、ただの英訳ではなく、元の歌詞の意味をなるべく忠実に守りながら曲（メロディー）に合わせた英語版歌詞です。つまり、歌える英語版です。決してパーフェクトで正式な英語版とは言えません。元の歌詞の意味が不確かなところがあったり、私の個人の解釈による英語訳も入れたり、曲に合わせるためにもいろいろな限界もありました。しかし、完成度は高く反響も良く、自信を持って自費で2007年6月ついにCD化。
