How is it possible, let alone any form of justice, to throw two GREAT GRANDMOTHERS in jail for a non-violent protest, yet that's what happened to Harriet Nahanee aged 71, a First Nation Elder. It ended up causing her death. Betty Krawczyk, about 78 years of age, and a another great grandmother, I believe had a sentence of ten months. They did a simple protest for the sake of saving wetlands. That's all. Yet these women SCARE THE HELL OUT OF A SUPREME JUSTICE named Brenda J. Brown. In fact, about 16 other people got arrested for their protest in wanting to save the wetlands.
It was beyond disgraceful and beyond inappropriate to treat either of the elder ladies with incarceration.
The truth is that greedy opportunistic land developers want that land for their own self serving, bank account filling reasons. Since they got the money, honey, Brenda Brown's got the time.

Harriet Nahanee - Public Inquiry Being Sought

In her early life she was a victim of residential schools. At the end of her life she became a victim of the province's ideology of development regardless of the consequences.

Indians and Us! Whites and Us! New inter-tribal group forming! Those of us interested in justice for all and for the earth must hang together.
Shawn Brant is the only person facing charges for his role in two major blockades carried out by members of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte during the past four months, as part of the struggle for their land.
Clearly, Brant's real 'crime' has been to take a serious stand against the theft of the land, the denial of sovereignty and the impoverishment and abuse of his People.
The Mohawks of Tyendinaga, and Shawn Brant as a spokesperson for the community, have carved out a national platform to expose Canada's complicity in the suffering of First Nations peoples. Given Brant's refusal to live as a victim of the Canadian state's systemic violence, he poses too great a threat to a country built on the backs of First Nations peoples. That is why he is still in jail, and why, if convicted, he will face federal penitentiary time.
